James Bond turns 50!
Today marks the 50th Anniversary of the very first James Bond film, Dr. No! Since then, there have been 22 major motion Bond films and 6 actors have played him...although George Lazenby only played him once. The other actors to grace the screen as the iconic super spy were Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and the currant Bond, Daniel Craig.
Today the debate rages over who was the best Bond. It's a bit of an unfair question really, since scripts and budgets dictated as much of James Bond as did the actors, if not more. Honestly one of the reasons I don't like Pierce Brosnan as Bond was because the movies themselves were so over-the-top. Although I also don't like Dalton either because of his acting style. Growing up, I thought Roger Moore WAS James Bond...and was extremely disappointed when I saw anyone else play him. Since then, I've come to admire Sean Connery as the original Bond...and have to admit that I really enjoy Daniel Craig's Bond as well. If I had to choose, I think it'd be between those two. Again, the tone of the movies really makes the Craig ones so good. After all those years as an unemotional superhero, it's good to see a more down to earth Bond in a darker, more emotional role. As a matter of fact, I think I'd have to say Casino Royale is my favorite Bond movie, and I really liked Quantum of Solace too. The newest James Bond film, Skyfall, will be out next month, and all the ads look very good indeed. I'm looking forward to it!
5 decades strong and James Bond still epitomizes cool. He's become a worldwide sensation and almost everyone has a favorite Bond moment. And everyone knows his name. It's Bond. James Bond.
Definitely my favorite Bond song!
