The NSA spying program, recently revealed, is troubling on many levels. The most troubling, however, may just be Americans lack of concern over it.
A recent ABC News/Washington Post poll shows majority ok with NSA spying.
The most disturbing thing about the above poll is that in 2007, the same poll showed that a majority of Republicans/Conservatives favored domestic spy programs while a majority of Democrats/Liberals opposed them. So basically, it seems that Americans don't care if their government spies on their communications just as long as they support the person in charge. You know who else didn't care if their government spied on them? The Germans in 1933.
History is full of important tips for how we should handle our present...actually that's pretty much the point of recorded history. Unfortunately, too few people pay attention to history for it to make much difference. And most people decry any kind of historical point if it involves Adolf Hitler. It seems that most people think that Adolf Hitler was the worst human being to ever exist and so want to erase him from history, and our minds, entirely. I disagree. I think Hitler was the worst human being to ever exist and so I want to learn about the things he did so that we can prevent them from ever happening again. Forgetting Hitler is the first step to letting another one rise.
Still, as soon as many people hear a comparison to Nazi Germany they cry foul and chastise me for even making such a comparison. Here's why they shouldn't. And why every American (heck, every human) should be concerned about the NSA and other government programs designed to spy on citizens.
On February 27th, 1933, the German parliament building, called the Reichstag, was burned to the ground. To this day, no one knows exactly who started the fire. (Some claim the Nazis themselves did it.) But German Chancellor Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party leaders nonetheless blamed it on the Communists. They said that the Communists were planning a revolution against the German government and that the Reichstag Fire was supposed to be a sign to Communist terror cells all over the country to begin a wave of attacks. Within 24 hours of the fire, Freedom of the Press, Freedom of Assembly, and Freedom of Expression were all suspended. The majority of German citizens gave up these rights without a second thought. It was necessary, they said, in order to prevent the terrible attacks the Communists were planning.
School teacher Louise Solmitz justified it by saying, "[The Communists] wanted to send armed mobs into villages to commit murder and plunder. Hostages would be taken from the Middle Class. Wives and children of police officers used as human shields."
Brunswick resident Elizabeth Gebensleben added, "This ruthless intervention by the government may appear strange, but we must clean up. The Communists have to disappear."
And author Sebastian Haffner described the attitude of most Germans with this: "All of [the people I talked to] are very interested in the question of who really started the fire, and more than one of them hinted that they had doubts about the official story. But none of them were bothered that from now on their telephones would be tapped, their letters opened, and their desks broken into." [Emphasis mine]
Thousands of people associated with the Communist Party were imprisoned across Germany, without evidence or trial. Simply being a member of that political party was enough to get you arrested, indefinitely imprisoned, or worse. Yet the majority of German people approved of the invasive measures of the Nazi government and applauded the round up of the Communists. After all, the government was only doing it to protect its citizens. And giving up some degree of privacy is worth it in order to be safe. Plus, as long as you weren't a Communist, you had nothing to worry about. The German people were ok with it.
All you have to do is replace the word communist with the word terrorist and you have the America of today. Shall we continue our view of history to see how it worked out for the Germans?
On the 23rd of March, 1933, the German parliament voted to pass the Enabling Act, basically making Adolf Hitler dictator. After all, it was a time of national emergency, and the Nazis would be better able to protect the citizens from Communist terrorists if Hitler didn't have to constantly go through the German parliament. Again, the German people applauded the move. One said, "We cry with happiness and joy! All traces of resistance have been eliminated. Enthusiasm grips the entire nation! We can hardly believe that our beloved Fürher stands alone at the head of the Reich!"
Sebastian Haffner described the following months like this: "Church bells ring; children wave flags. There are daily parades. The people have become used to cheering, even when there's no reason for it. It is reason enough that people who distance themselves from the Nazis are tortured to death daily with steel whips and electric drills."
The German people enjoyed a prosperous year. Most had high hopes for their future and the future of their children. They were unconcerned with reports of political dissidents being targeted by the police and government. They cared less about the government spying on their communications. They celebrated the arrests of the Communists and believed they were living in a better Germany than they had been a year ago. 1934 looked like it was going to be a good year. For some, it was anything but.
In 1934, the Nazis began their eugenics program. Weeding out "undesirable genetic traits" was a key to this. And so the German government began surgically preventing anyone with undesirable traits from breeding. Over 400,000 Germans were forcibly sterelized for such "genetic flaws" as blindness, deafness, epilepsy, homosexuality, mental depression, alcoholism, sexual promiscuity, and physical deformity, among others. Including suffering a nervous breakdown, as one factory worker explained to her friend: "I have been informed by writing that I am to be rendered infertile. I reject this decision. I cannot understand why they want to sterilize me since I've done nothing wrong. Anyone could have suffered from a nervous breakdown."
Suddenly, having the government listening to your phone calls and reading your mail didn't turn out to be such a minor thing. The government knowing private details about their citizens made it a whole lot easier for them to determine how to handle them. Accusing the government of crimes in a letter could get you arrested. Asking your sick aunt how she was doing over the phone could get her sterilized. There was no place to hide.
I know, I know...it couldn't happen here. Well do you honestly think that the German citizens thought that the things that happened to them would in 1933? Do you think that Germans with epilepsy thought that they would be forcibly sterilized? Do you think that German Jews thought that they would be slaughtered? They didn't, as author Erich Ebermayer explained in 1933: "We are having lunch with a law professor and his wife. They are both Jewish. The amazing thing is that this clever, charming woman is not at all opposed to the Nazis. On the contrary, she lectures us on the outstanding qualities of Adolf Hitler, on the greatness of the age which we are allowed to witness, on the national rebirth. And she is firmly convinced that no harm whatsoever will come to educated Jews in Germany."
What do you say, American? Firmly convinced that no harm whatsoever will come of the government spying program? Firmly convinced that "it could never happen here?" I hope and pray that you are right. But history tends to disagree.
In the following pages I offer nothing more than simple facts, plain arguments, and common sense:

Rand Paul - The Last American?
"Are we so complacent with our rights that we would allow a president to say he might kill Americans?"
That is the crux of what was an almost 13 hour filibuster by Kentucky Senator Rand Paul that began just before noon yesterday and ended well after midnight tonight. A rare "talking filibuster" by Paul held up the confirmation hearing of CIA head nominee John Brennan, but the filibuster had little to do with Brennan himself and everything to do with the frightening drone policy that is being implemented by the Obama Administration. Rand Paul asked a simple question that deserves a simple answer. Does the Executive Branch of our government have the right to kill Americans on American soil with drones, and if so, by what guidelines? Senator Paul was driven to hold up Senate proceedings until he was given an adequate answer to that simple question...and he may have done so well into tomorrow if not for the need of a bathroom break. (For the life of me I don't know how he made it nearly 13 hours without one!) His numerous requests for an answer to that simple question were all ignored or skirted by the President, Attorney General Eric Holder, and John Brennan. And so Paul held up the Senate to make it known that this is an important issue, maybe the most important of our time. Because if the Executive Branch can ignore the 5th Amendment, then it can ignore them all and we are two steps away from outright dictatorship.
Because of the length of the filibuster, the issue was brought to light. Infamously liberal groups like the ACLU and the Huffington Post agreed with Rand Paul. Yet, I fear that the answer to the question above is a deafening 'yes.' The majority of Americans are too complacent with our rights. As Greg Gutfeld said, President Obama has been gifted with the most distracted society since Ancient Rome (and we all know how that turned out). Instead of Bread and Circuses we have Beyonce and Siri. I believe history does repeat itself. And I'm also starting to believe Mark Twain was right in saying that nothing can be done to stop that; that man's nature only leads to the repeating of history's mistakes. Looking at today's America, how can one come to any other conclusion? Rand Paul may very well be the last American standing.

"How did it come to this?"
The level of ignorance in America today astounds me. It seems the majority of people don't know a thing about history, don't know what Socialism is, and have no idea what tyranny looks like in its infancy. Sure, there is a portion of the people who know all these things exactly, but it seems that their message is only heard by those who already believe it and ignored by the masses. It frustrates me greatly to see parallels between history and America today; parallels of tyranny, absolutism, nationalism, socialism. Parallels to horrors, death, and slavery.
Yet most ignore it, choose not to believe it, or honestly think it can't happen here or to them. And if the majority, or even half, of the population refuses to face reality, then what can the informed do? What can those who believe America is headed into times possibly darker than any in history do about it? It seems trying to spread knowledge is the only recourse. But the majority won't listen. And it's damn frustrating.
But honestly, it isn't any different from most of human history. In the 1700's, half of the population of the American colonies refused to believe Britain needed to be rebelled against...until British warships brought troops to America.
In the 1930's, people in Germany welcomed the rise of the Nazis. In Austria, 98% of the population voted to become a part of Nazi Germany thinking it would be better for them. Five years later people were being rounded up and sent to Concentration Camps. In the meantime, the people gladly gave up their guns in order to comply with their new government's wishes. When Jews were forbidden to own guns, they gave them up. 11 million people were killed in Death Camps.
In the 1920's in Turkey, Armenians gave up their guns to the new Muslim government. Millions of them, 3/4 of the Armenian population, were then slaughtered.
In the 1930's in Russia, the Soviet government forced the population to register all their firearms, then used the lists to confiscate them all. Millions were killed or starved to death.
All throughout history, the natural inclination of humanity has been to obey their governments' every decree. In an attempt to remain peaceful, humans do what they are told...and then when they end up victims to violent or tyrannical leadership they ask, "How did this happen?"
History repeats itself, and those who don't know it are doomed to repeat it. I personally believe America is on an unchangeable path towards some bad times. Yet no one seems to care. If things come to pass like I think they will, these same people will one day cry out, "How did it come to this?"
It seems to be human nature to choose ignorance over liberty. Can we expect America to possibly turn out any differently?

Terrorist Nadal Hassan's judge thrown off case
I saw this story a few days ago and have been stewing over it since then. I wasn't even sure I would write this because it fills me with too much anger to properly express with words.
First off, this Islamic terrorist (just because the White House doesn't call him that doesn't mean the rest of us with a brain won't) has YET to even be properly tried. I mean, his act of terrorism took place in 2009! That's three freakin' years! At this rate, we'll colonize Mars before this trial concludes.
And what is the big holdup? The terrorist's beard.
He's in the Army. The Army doesn't allow beards. He's not allowed to have a beard because he's in the Army.
It's a 2+2=4 thing...and yet, it's caused a delay that makes air travel look speedy by comparison.
He didn't have a problem shaving every day for his entire Army career, yet now he's thrown away his razor in order to be a good Muslim. So was he a bad Muslim for his entire life until now? Was murdering innocent people the event that made him into a good Muslim?
And now the judge who ordered him to shave or be shaved (rightfully so) has been thrown off the case, and the entire beard issue will be brought up again...whenever it is the Army appoints a new judge to the case. All the while our taxpayer dollars go to this farce. But I guess when a terrorist attack is labeled as "workplace violence" by our government leaders, it only makes sense to expect the whole thing to be a clown show.
Full story here.
But at least, as Craig Andresen points out at The National Patriot, the Army just confirmed that it is ok to display religious symbols on government property. Just in time to put up those Christmas displays!

The new Cheka hard at work discrediting McCain
Earlier I wrote about the new Cheka and how their goal is the same as the original Cheka in Soviet Russia: silence the opposition. As I wrote, the new Cheka isn't a secret police force; instead it is the people themselves who have been indoctrinated with leftist/Marxist drivel since 6th grade. Well no group in America embodies the new Cheka quite as well as the media...who, over generations, have been bred to repeat leftist ideas instead of critically thinking up any of their own.
Today, the media Cheka are hard at work trying to silence anyone pointing a finger at President Obama or his woefully inept administration concerning the Benghazi massacre. The new object of their ire: Senator John McCain. McCain, already hated by the left for being a war hero (to them there is no such thing as a war hero; anyone involved in war is inherently evil), is now being viciously and repeatedly attacked by the talking heads in the media for questioning Susan Rice's involvement in the incident, her response to it (which turned out to be straight lies), and her part played in trying to obfuscate the facts. Rice, who may be in line to become the new Secretary of State once Hillary retires to focus on her presidential campaign, was the one who took her message of deceit to five morning talk shows 5 days after the Benghazi massacre. You'll remember, she said it was all caused by a protest gone wrong and that there was no proof that it was a premeditated attack.
Well now, Senator McCain, along with Sens. Lindsey Graham and Kelly Ayotte, has said that he will filibuster Rice's nomination as Secretary of State until the Benghazi incident has been fully investigated in public hearings. McCain is calling for Watergate-style hearings into the White House's handling of the incident, including the decrease in security leading up to the attack and the lie about it all being a protest that was spread for two weeks after the attack (before they all agreed that it was indeed terrorism, and that is what they had said all along!).
This incursion into the Marxist regime plan has not been taken lightly by the new Cheka, and the media has responded in scathing, and somewhat predictable, fashion. They are now painting McCain as an Ahab-type figure, who, consumed with his loss to Obama in the 2008 election, is now taking any chance to try and "get back" at Obama. They are saying that his criticism of Susan Rice, as well as the whole Benghazi incident, is simply because he is a sore loser that just won't accept that he lost. Now I am not a huge fan of McCain, but this attack, being repeated at all levels of the media, is completely disingenuous and disgusting. (Not that I should expect different from the "state media.") First off, the Benghazi massacre is not just some "bump in the road," as Obama put it. It's a major, historical event. The death of an ambassador is nothing to sneeze at, and the idea that the death of 4 Americans is not really important is of such anathema to me that I feel that anyone making that case needs a good punch in the nose! I know in America today we are more concerned with who got voted off of Dancing with the Stars than anything that is happening in other parts of the world...and also that life is cheaper than once believed...and that if it doesn't affect me I shouldn't care. I do believe that is what is wrong with America today. A lot of people need punching in the nose!
But to attack John McCain as a sore loser 4 freaking years after he lost seems like a bit of a desperate measure! However, I do know that the American public will eat it up, as anything said on TV is taken as truth by most people who can't be bothered to come up with their own thoughts. This is why the new Cheka is winning in reshaping America into a socialist paradise, and why more and more Americans are becoming a part of the new Cheka. And as mentioned in my last post, this attack on a Republican is all part of the plan. The media are complicit in this plan, and this story is just one example of it. McCain, as well as other Republicans who continue to make trouble for the new Socialist Regime in Washington, will be phased out of the American consciousness over the next 4 years by a lying and traitorous media complex.

How do you kill 11 million people?
Well it seems the theme of the day is Nazi Germany...
While looking for the Hitler Youth video I used in the last post, I stumbled upon this video by Hilmer Von Campe. He was a member of the Hitler Youth and fought for Germany in WWII. It's a long video and could probably be cut in half, but it's an important message about how our government today is closer to Nazism than the Founding Fathers and how 90% of Germans didn't believe in the Nazi ideology but fought for it anyway because they believed the lies they were told. He also says the same kind of ignorance and apathy exists in America today. His message is a warning.
Then 5 minutes ago I see this video at We The People
It's shorter and more poignant...but what blew me away is how eerily similar the messages are. Actually I guess they're more than similar, they're the same. Ever have something keep popping up from different places?? Makes you think you're supposed to pay attention. Well apparently this is what I'm supposed to pay attention to today. And it is a message I fully agree with.
How do you kill 11 million people? By subduing 80 million into inaction.
How many will be killed if 300 million are subdued in America?
"We must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most...and that is the indifference of good men!"
